Huh? I guess I truly do not understand your logic on the power rankings. I can not fathom how a team that is 5-2 (Pats) is ranked ahead of teams that have better records (Titans, 7-0 & Giants, 6-1) or teams that have the same record, Panthers & Steelers (bye week exception), that would clearly man-handle the aging Patriots.
I doubt that I am the only one that is wondering.
BTW, on a semi-related football note, the Skerz are 21.5 point underdogs on Saturday at OU. I'm thinking about putting $5K on OU to cover.
Anyone else?
i wish i had 5k but i don't have anywhere near that kind of money. plus, FUCK OU! they are probably gonna rape some white girls or something after the game anyway.
Don't bet angry.
Max, do you have any records from these rankings?
There is no "human element" in these rankings. It's all numbers. I'm not saying the numbers are perfect, but they are all numbers.
I too think the Titans and Giants and Steelers are probably better than the Patriots, but I'm not going to fudge the numbers to make it so. The numbers are the numbers.
Wins/Losses is indeed a factor in the numbers. Of course performance vs. expected outcome and margin of victory play in to the outcome as well. Points for and points against have a role too.
It's all very complicated.
Is there any way you can post the formula so that I can better understand the process? I guess I didn't realize that you had a mathematical equation to deduct the rankings. Perhaps if I could see how it works, I would be less likely to question your results...unlikely, but it is a possibility.
That information is proprietary. I'm sorry.
Although I think it's funny you guys thought I ranked the teams in my preference, and then just randomly assigned numbers to them.
Seriously, what is the record of these rankings...128-0? Undefeated? I suppose I could try and figure it out but I'm sure Max has some sort of spreadsheet
The fact that you are unwilling to share the equation you use to formulate the power rankings makes me believe that you do in fact rank the teams by your preference and then just randomly assign numbers.
And until I see some statistical mathematics, I will not believe otherwise.
Also, the rankings are not a prediction, it uses past information to calculate the equivilant of the NCAA rankings to give us cannon fodder to talk about over the interblog-nettertronotubes.
